I wouldn’t worry. My brother and I believed until we were too old to buy it anymore. I am 25 and my parents still refuse to acknowledge that there isn’t a Santa. Which, I love. My mom winks when I thank her for Santa’s gifts, but my dad has never EVER caved to giving Santa up. We still sit out cookies and milk. I love that they kept it alive for me, and still do.

I ruined it for my little brother all in one night. I caught my mother placing money under his pillow for the “Tooth Fairy,” and I balled my eyes out screaming with declaration that the Easter Bunny and Santa Clause weren’t real either. Talk about practical reasoning. I killed them all with one cry.

I really love this post. It’s so amazing as a parent as we question where we stand on these experiences our children are having. Do we agree that there is no magic in Christmas, or do we help them find the magic that REALLY IS THERE… which is like you said, the love and the hope.

If it makes you feel any better, my youngest sister (who is 16 yrs younger than me) fought to believe for a few more years after “The Bus”.

I dread this day coming. I’m kinda glad my kid is in an ultra conservative school where Santa isn’t supposed to be mentioned.

I’m approaching the same stage with my boys as well. I dread the day they find out and I have to admit I’ve been lying all these years. This Santa thing really sucks when you’re on the parent side of it!
