Listen Up, Hollywood!

Listen up, Hollywood.

I have something I would like to scream at you:  Stop making adult movies out of children’s playthings!!!

It is not fair to the children who beg to see your movie because they think it is about their heroes OR to the parents who are now needing to protect them from their so-called heroes.

For example:  G.I. Joe. Was it really necessary to make it into a violent, blood-soaked movie? Really?

And how about Transformers?

Let me tell you a little bit about what happened after my kids watched Transformers…. You know what ONE WORD my children retained from that movie?  “MASTURBATING.” (Did you know that they threw that little ditty in the movie? Why, yes.  Yes, they did.)

sexy Transformers

Oh yes, this is definitely appropriate for a child.

That very word came out of my son’s mouth.  Actually, that word came out of my son’s mouth while talking to MY FATHER.  Can you imagine my dad’s reaction?

Transformers 2 wasn’t any better.  A lot of sexuality in that one.  We unfortunately found that fact out while accompanying my son to his friend’s (9 year old) birthday party at the movies.   Her mother was totally mortified.  Blatant sexuality wasn’t in the first one.  I mean, what the hell?

You know, there are so many “family” movies out there that would be JUST FINE if you would just leave out the random f-bomb or stupid sexual innuendo.  You know what might happen if you left out all the cussing and the sex?  You might actually have a blockbuster on your hands.

BECAUSE PARENTS COULD SAFELY TAKE THEIR CHILDREN TO THE MOVIES AGAIN.

Wait if they took out the cussing and the sex, why would WE be there? Just kidding. Needless to say, Grandpa and Grandma would take them.
    ;)

yeah- the seen out of Transformers 2 when she was detailing her bike… You would NEVER detail your bike from that angle. I’m not sure, but I think they wanted you to focus on her shorts…I’ll have to see it again to confirm ;)

I completely agree. While F bombs and sex don’t offend me, I have a serious issue with my kids watching a movie like that!

Yikes! I never realized that about Transformers. I don’t think my kids ever asked to see it thank goodness. It is sad that you have to prescreen PG movies to make sure they are really PG.

And really, when did F*bombs and sex become appropriate for PG-13???? Hmmm? 13? So if my kid is 13 F-words and SEX are ok?

    NOT! EVEN! CLOSE! MR! BAY!

  6. I get so tired of having to tell my boys…”Sorry guys…I know you want to see it but there were some inappropriate parts.” That’s all I need is my 9yo to connect masturbation with Megan Fox!!

I know! I didn’t really want my son to KNOW what masturbating was this young… really!

  8. My guess (mind you it’s just a guess) is that a lot of these shows were from the 80’s, and the 80’s children have grown up and are in their late 20’s so this sort of stuff appeals to them.

Not that I’m condoning this kind of stuff being made for children, I just didn’t think either movie was aimed at children. Course I don’t ever go to the movies anymore so I don’t know what bracket they were advertising to.

Lol! That’s funny! I’ve never thought about it, but that makes sense!

I couldn’t agree more. My boys (9 & 6) are so “out of the loop” with what their friends have seen. I actually had a conversation at the 1st grade lunch table with a boy (not mine) about who I thought was tougher in Aliens v. Predator. He brought it up, not me. This is rated R! What was that 6 year-old doing watching that movie?! I blame the parents too for having no judgment in allowing kids to see this stuff!!!!

Oh that is just wrong! Who lets a 6 year old do that?

I knew that there was a reason I didn’t want to take my son to see that movie!
How in the world would I begin to explain that word to him???? I’m still having trouble with the word NO

  12. Tracie says:

You are completely correct!! The second Transformers was definitely not something you want to let your kids see (unless you are prepared to have “the talk” in the movie theater lobby!)

Go ahead, make the movie, add all the f-bombs and bootie you want to. I was an 80’s kid and I can STILL sing the REAL Transformers theme song (yeah I’m a dork like that) and I dig the flicks. Here’s my thing, if you’re gonna do that FINE just don’t make everything from back packs to play dough, underoos to M&Ms with the dam characters on them! Make up your freaking minds already.. do you want the 17-35 demographic or the 12 and under? Cuz Hollywierdos one thing we moms have learned from chocolate and aging.. ya can’t have it BOTH ways!

Agree with DiPaola Momma, they have a choice. Either market toward me the (ahem!) 40 yo guy that watched the cartoon when it first came out some 25+ years ago and then they can focus on Megan’s shorts and bad detailing skills all they want to and leave out all the tie-in’s. Or they can market it toward my 4 year olds and have new customers for years for all the assorted garbage that they put out with it, but sans Megan’s shorts.

However, just to make a little counterpoint… 1980 Princess Leia in the Gold Bikini :)
