I’m part of the Invisalign Teen Mom Advisory Board!
I’m thrilled to let you in on a little secret I’ve been keeping… I have just become part of the Invisalign Teen Mom Advisory Board! The advisory board consists of moms across the country who have children in treatment or are in treatment themselves.
I know, right? I am thrilled!
As part of my role on the board, my son (affectionately dubbed Tiny Ninja for those of you who are new around here) will receive complimentary treatment and I will, in turn, share our honest experiences with you. The good and the bad.
That being said, there are a couple of things about my little man that I will be taking into particular account with regards to his Invisalign treatment:
- He is 12 and getting ready to enter his first year of middle school. (Remember those scary days? Blech. I hated them too.)
- He is an active athlete participating year round in soccer activities. (Yes, I am a soccer mom. Don’t judge.)
- He has some special needs, experiences mild anxiety and is incredibly sensitive to sensory experiences. (I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit worried about his reaction to treatment.)
- He has ADD. That might be a problem when dealing with taking out the braces to eat. (Seriously, if his head wasn’t attached to his body I think he would forget it!)
So far there is not a whole lot to report. We attended our initial consultation and determined that he was, indeed, a candidate. Today we went in to get his X-rays and “before” pictures taken as well as have his dental molds created.
He WASN’T a big fan of the molding process. I’ve been through it myself and basically it just tastes BAD. Now way around it. Of course with Ninja we always have to worry about his breathing. He did get a little anxious but the dentist later told me that he did incredibly well for his age. (That being said, he did gag a couple of times. The mom in me was imagining various puking scenarios. But we dodged that bullet. Whew!)
The process was quick and easy. The boy skipped off happily to lunch and I went back to work.
He did have one complaint though… that he might not get them in time for his first day of school.
Makes momma smile…
Disclosure: I’m part of the Invisalign Mom Advisory Board and my son is receiving free Invisalign treatment so that we could share our honest experiences.

I think it’s really great that we get to hear how your son is going through treatment. I know my 6 year old will need something one day so it’ll be nice to relate and know what I could expect.
Tiny Ninja, adorable!
I would have loved for Invisalign to have existed when I was a “brace face” for 4 years of my adolescence. Two of our three boys have needed braces and it is our third son’s turn next. Are there Invisalign providers in Frederick?
Melissa recently posted..He walks with me
You know, I never got braces growing up because my parents couldn’t afford them. I’ll be 40 this year and it is still somewhere on my to-do list. ((sigh)) As for providers in Frederick, there most certainly are! If you do a zip code search on the Invisalign website you can see exactly where to locate one. BTW – it has been forever since I have seen you. Hope you are doing well!
Congratulations!!! I’ll be following your progress!
