There are truly a bevy of great races to choose from this season in my hometown of Frederick, Maryland. Below are just a small sampling of the fun Fall 5ks you can participate in:

Habitat for Humanity “No Place Like Home ” 5K
Saturday, October 27, 2012 – Baker Park
8:00 a.m.
Registration link here.

I’ve worked on this event for the past two years and it is truly a blast! Not only is it a great theme that the whole family can get involved in (there is a companion Walk-A-Thon for the kiddos) but it is also a great opportunity to run in costume. And who DOESN’T love that? This event, coupled with the Headless Horseman 5K on the same day is part of a special  progressive 10K challenge. (See details on that below.)

Habitat for Humanity “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” Walk-a-thon

This is a great event to get your kids (or whole family) involved in. Contribution/pledge forms are available for download here.

This annual 5K benefits Frederick High School. This race has a really fun Halloween theme with a great course. Rumor has it that organizers have some surprises in store for participants. Who is up for a little trick or treating runner style?

Mud Dog Run – Zombie Edition (5K)
Saturday, November 3, 2012 – Crumland Farms
1:00 p.m.
Registration link here.

Discount code: fitzombie (for $30 off of event registration!)

Can I just say how mad I am that I will not be participating in this one? Totally coincides with my marathon. Grr!!! But I digress…. The Mud Dog Runs are pretty legendary in the Frederick area and with good reason! It is a true party, from what I hear. :) This particular event will feature 16 obstacles ranging from mud pits to cargo nets and climbing walls, not to mention the ZOMBIES! Each runner gets their own flags (think flag football) that the zombies are just dying to get their grubby hands on. Dodge the zombies and keep your flags to score additional benefits. (Be sure to stay on for the “End of the World” party with live music and lots of good food and drink.)

Disclosure: (Not that I need one.) I am not getting paid to promote any of these races. I know of them through various personal contacts and truly believe they will be a ton of fun for all who participate!
