Let’s just get one thing out of the way right now, I’ve been known to knock back a few cocktails in my life as a mother. (If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed.) The way I see it, that glass of wine or a chilled beverage at the end of a long day is my reward for managing not to be hauled away to the loony bin.

So you can see why I instantly fell in love with the book, Mommy Mixology by Janet Frongillo. She is a real mom who can whip out witty tales of toddler trials like it is nobody’s business.

Plus she has mad cocktail skills.

The book features more than 60  recipes and 20 color photos, with clever drink names like “Mouthy Muchacho” “Oedipus Schmedipus” and “Muffintopmommy Mudslide.” Each of the recipes are introduced with a fun mini-story from the author that gives each drink its name. Drinks themes begin at conception and work their way up.

I truly enjoyed all of her tales (And I may have even laughed out loud a couple of times. Not because I could relate or anything.) not to mention her drink recipes.

For example – The No!Jito is not only a clever take on one of my favorite drinks, it also celebrates a period of time I remember oh-so-well, the time my children learned the word NO. <— Shudder. I think they literally said no every two minutes for the a period of 16 months. Oh how I could have benefited back then from a No!Jito. (Seriously? Why didn’t my husband make me one? What the heck was he doing, anyway?)

As for the drink recipe? SPOT ON. (Don’t be a hater. I had to try it if I was going to give an honest review. Sheesh.)

Mommy Mixology is the fun gift for new mother (baby shower!) or a woman entering a particularly trying time in her child rearing journey. The book retails for $14.95 from Ulysses Press and can be ordered online at Amazon.com.

FTC Disclosure: I was provided with a copy of Mommy Mixology to review. All opinions are my own. Seriously. The book is hilarious.
