My grandmother was a self-educated woman. Growing up poor in inner city Baltimore, she wasn’t encouraged to stay in school. In fact, we’re pretty sure she didn’t attend classes past the fifth grade.
But she was whip smart.
She may not have had money or position but she sure as hell had gumption. She took herself to the library (it was free) and more than made up for her lack of education. She read everything she got her hands on, right up until she passed away.
She wasn’t going to let her circumstances rob her of knowledge.
The above quote reminds me of my grandmother’s situation. And when I feel like I am at a disadvantage in my life I think of my “mom-mom” and I feel empowered.
Do what you can… with what you have … where you are. Can you apply this concept to any area of you life?
