I am beyond excited to share this initiative with you! As you may recall, I’m a huge supporter of the United Nations Foundation and participate in their initiatives whenever I can.
Beginning February 11th, the UN Foundation is launching a new virtual event along with partner Charity Miles, that allows people across the country to walk, run, or bike to help raise $10k for charity, all without opening their wallets.
If you are not yet familiar with the social good app Charity Miles, its a free iPhone/Android app that enables people to earn money for charity when they walk, run or bike.
Small Steps, Huge Impact
The #Vday10k challenge will run through the month of February when youll be able to donate your distance to a variety of United Nations Foundation campaigns. The participating campaigns will include Girl Up, where your miles will help a teen girl in a developing country safely attend school, Nothing but Nets where you will help protect a family from malaria, and Shot@Life where your miles will help to provide life-saving vaccines to children around the world that need it most.
The concept is quite simple, all you need to do is download the Charity Miles app for free on your smartphone. Than select the United Nations Foundation campaign of your choice and whether you will be walking, running or biking.
Charity Miles will donate 25 cents for every mile you walk or run, and 10 cents for every mile you bike. At the end of your activity, you will be told how your donated miles will help the charity youve chosen. (By the way, social media is integrated into the app, so you can share the good that youve done with your friends on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtag #VDay10k. )
This is a simple way to raise money and change the world just by doing what you normally do.
I can think of nothing better. In fact, I believe it can empower you in your daily life and pay off in many, many ways.
Just think, if you run or walk ONE MORE MILE, someone you’ve never met will benefit. That is such a powerful motivator.
Are you in? I know I am!
