Do you know what today is? Okay, YES, it is Monday (shudder) but aside from that? The start of Frederick’s very own Restaurant Week! (Is your mouth watering yet? It should be!)

A few weeks ago I was invited to attend a sneak peek of what this year’s restaurants had to offer.

For those in my area who aren’t yet familiar, Frederick Restaurant Week is a 7-day promotion (March 4-10) that features the unique and fine dining options available in Downtown Frederick and the surrounding area. Chefs prepare delicious, price fixed 2-course and 3-course special menus.

The outing I attended was put together by the Tourism Council of Frederick County and the Downtown Frederick Partnership and brought together area bloggers, writers and members of the local media. The culinary tour kicked off at Frederick’s Visitor Center where  the Red Horse offered a tasting of duckbrest and shrimp ceviche, while another local restaurant, Alexanders, brought forth sweet potato biscuits with country ham and buttermilk biscuits with pimento cheese.

From there our group was divided into three subgroups and sent out to tour various restaurants more in-depth.

JoJo’s Restaurant and Tap House

What we sampled: Cream of Crab Soup, Crab Cake Sandwich, Exploded S’More, Reuben Cakes

Acacia Fusion Bistro

What we sampled: Calamari Fritti, Jagerschnitzel, Kung Pao, Turkish Coffee Crème Brule

Olives Ristorante

What we sampled: Bruschetta Del Giorno, Chicken Marsala, Pappardelle alla Bolognese

AYSE Meze Lounge

What we sampled: Dolmades, Brussel Sprouts, Hummus, Tzatziki, Babaganoush, Baklava

What can I say about the food at each venue other than the fact that it was outstanding?! Each dish was perfectly prepared and a treat unto itself. I honestly can’t choose a favorite, they were so unique. Interestingly, the restaurants I visited and sampled that day were all ones that I have frequented personally before. I was pleasantly surprised to find that at each stop I sampled multiple items I had never had the pleasure to try before. It opened up a whole new experience for me!

Featuring over  20 restaurants, Frederick Restaurant Week is by far the perfect time to try something new. Lunches will be offered at $15.13 for a 2-course meal and $20.13 for a 3-course meal. Dinners are offered at $20.13 for a 2-course meal and $30.13 for a 3-course meal.  (Note: All costs are exclusive of tax, beverages and gratuity.)

If you plan on taking advantage of the fantastic offerings available during Frederick Restaurant Week, reservations are strongly recommended.

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram you probably saw all of the photos I posted during that tasting online. To keep up with the activities during the week, I suggest following/visiting the following resources:
