Fall is my absolute favorite time of year. Pumpkin spiced coffee, Halloween, beautiful running weather, piles of raked leaves… there is just nothing better.

In the Gerlock household, fall also ushers in the Halloween season during which we go all out. A video of our house can be found here. (And that was years ago, the hubby has upped his game since then. But I digress.)

Each year I make a bucket list of things we simply MUST DO in order to max out the season.

The 2014 list:

fall bucket list

Mud Dog Zombie Run– Last year was the first year that I participated in the Mud Dog Zombie Run and it was ADDICTIVE. This year, the magazine staff is returning and I’m bringing some of my son’s soccer team with as well. Squee! This is not just your every day obstacle course run, folks.OH NO. It is an obstacle course run where the living dead chase you around the course trying to make you one of them. So fun! (Incidentally, if you are interested in participating, use the code GORILLA at check out to get a $15 discount.)

Screamland Farms – Honestly, I took the boys here last year and was really nervous about their reaction. But they surprised me – they loved it! There are three haunts – Corrupted Corn, Hayride of Horrors and Barn of Bedlam. The price is $10 per haunt or $27 for all three. Not a bad deal, in my opinion. I’m just hoping that this year my super-mature-ain’t-skeerd-of-nothin’ teenagers grow a backbone and don’t hide behind their mommy again. Heh.

By the way, if you are a haunted house fan and haven’t seen the Ellen Show’s video on ‘Andy and Amy’s Haunted House,’ you are totally missing out. I could watch this video for hours and still laugh hysterically.

Lawyer’s Farm -I can’t say enough about this experience. The Moonlight Maze is the largest in the state with a full six miles of corn maze fun ranging from easy to difficult with a bonus scavenger hunt thrown in for good measure.

If the expansive corn mazes aren’t enough for you then the two pumpkin cannons should be. There are giant (and I do mean giant) Transformer-ish targets to launch your pumpkins at. And by launch I mean at speeds up to 75 mph. AWESOME.

As a side note, I would also like to find the perfect apple pie recipe this year. I’m starting with this unreal Honey Cardamom Chunky Apple Pie recipe from (a)Musing Foodie. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it.

What is on your agenda this fall? How does your family maximize the season?
