Confession: I’ve had the same hair style since for nearly 10 years.
I didn’t realize this to be true until a few days ago. While playing around on Pinterest I came upon a picture that I knew well. It was my someday-I’ll-get-up-the-nerve-to-change-my-style picture. I’ve had it on my radar for three years and I’ve always been to scared to actually get the cut.
Yes, you read that right. I was scared to cut my hair.
In my defense, I’ve had this hair style for a long time. I mean, I always thought I was trendy but mostly that is because I changed the color. (A lot.) But a quick scroll through my Facebook pictures shows that I had not, in fact, changed my style since 2008.
Don’t get me wrong, the style worked for me. It served me well. But it really was silly to be so afraid to mix it up a bit. And it got me worrying about how I might be stagnating in other areas of my life.
What else was I holding on to because I was afraid of change?
Once that thought hit me I immediately texted my stylist and within a day I had made the change.
I broke up with my old hair.
And you guys, I feel like a huge burden has been lifted. Like I have broken through some invisible barrier I didn’t even know existed.
It. Is. Fantastic.
Some of the folks reading this may scoff at the idea that cutting one’s hair might have bigger life implications but I am here to tell you that you can find inspiration in the simplest things. To some it is just a haircut. To this girl it represented a new beginning. A life that didn’t have to be so damn predictable.
And I am in no way done making changes yet. In fact, I’m just getting started.
I have a feeling this is going to be a great year…
