Become A Better You – Meaningful Excerpt

I have this bright pink three subject notebook that I use to help me organize my life. One section is for business (You know, those ideas that come to you in the middle of the night.), the other for blog topics (Hey, I’ve gotta write this stuff down before I forget it!) and the other for faith and inspiration.

Monday as I was being zapped by my physical therapist I was reviewing my notebook when I came across this book excerpt.

It really struck me.

It is from the the book “Become A Better You” by Joel Osteen. I am a big Osteen fan.  His books on faith really speak to me. Become a Better You

“The enemy knows something about about what is inside of you, as well.  He knows the POTENTIAL you are carrying, so he does everything he can to keep that seed from taking root.  He doesn’t want your (dreams) gifts and talents to FLOURISH.  He doesn’t want you to accomplish your dreams.  He wants you to live an AVERAGE, MEDIOCRE life.”

That is really powerful when you think of it that way, isn’t it?  I think my biggest fear has always been to live a mediocre life.

Just thought I would share.

Pirates, Potter and Pattison! (I’m Lucky To Be Married)

Booty Mamma

I “HEART” my new shirt.

I know, I know… It is the coolest.  I got it in Ocean City, MD last weekend at Jolly Roger Amusement Park.

I really, really, really, really wanted it.  It didn’t come in adult size (Grrr…) so I just bought the extra large kid size.

My husband thinks I am ridiculous. And probably a little immature.

He is right.

After all, I have this thing for pirates, and then there are those darn vampires (books) (Pattison!) and well, of course, we can’t forget my obsession with all things  Harry Potter, can we?  (Snape!)

Jeez. Come to think of it.  I am a freak.

A freak that is raising children.  Hmmm…. that is a bit unsettling.

I’m lucky to be married.

Shamelessly Hooked On Sparkling Vampires

A mom's dirty little obsession

A mom's dirty little obsession

Sparkling vampires. Dazzling damsels in constant distress. Werewolves. Lots and lots of angst…

Why would anyone over the age of 12 read smut like that?

Because once you start you JUST CAN’T STOP.  I’m serious.

For the record, I  am not exactly to blame for my newest obsession.  Over the Christmas holidays my nieces (girls, you know who you are!) got me totally hooked on Twilight.

No, not the movie… the book. Or should I say books. Four of them. Four very large books. Thousands of pages.

I didn’t get a lick of work done in weeks.

I’m not proud of it. It is not exactly difficult reading. But it IS seriously addictive.

A friend I went to lunch with recently knew all about the Twilight series. She didn’t, however, understand why I was reading it.

She asked me, “Isn’t that, like, a vampire soap opera?”

Ouch. Yep, pretty much.

Yeah, she knew about it because her teenager was reading it.

Oh.

I felt a little silly. That was, until I happened upon two other mid-thirties moms who were also shamelessly addicted to it.

Then the other day, while at a book store, I encountered a near hysterical woman who was searching for the final installment. She had been to two stores that were sold out of the series. She was definitely FRANTIC.

Apparently I am not alone.

Twilight is like this dirty, little mom secret.

No one wants to admit it.  We are all lucid enough to realize how ridiculous the whole thing is.

And yet still we want ourselves a sparkly vampire with a Volvo.
