Every week I write a column for Want2Dish.com. This week’s focus is Facebook and young children. Rumors abound that Facebook is seriously considering allowing children under the age of 13 to create accounts on its site. The Internet is in a tizzy. Current policy states that users must be 13 or older, although an estimated 7.5 million underaged children are reportedly already on Facebook, most of whom did so with their parents’ help. Lowering the age limit and allowing a flood of children users in is, in my humble opinion, a very bad idea. A very, very, very bad idea. And I am…

Every week I do a column for Want2Dish.com. This week’s focus is about the new tool Friendsheet…   I don’t know about you, but I have a love-hate relationship with Facebook. Like most, I love the opportunity to keep up with friends and family, but also, I suspect, like most, I hate the mysterious way the site determines what I see and what I don’t in my daily feed. Enter my new favorite application Friendsheet. Friendsheet takes public photos your friends have posted and arranges them on a grid that looks eerily similar to Pinterest allowing you to easily cruise through your…

I am in photo nirvana at this moment. I found the most incredible photo app today just by happenstance. It is called Polamatic and it is created by none other than Polaroid. It is the perfect blend between modern digital photography and classic Polaroid style. The app allows users to create a retro photo by either shooting a new picture or use an existing one from their library, adding a  frame, applying a filter and/or caption. I am having so much fun! There are 12 frames with names like “crumpled,” “tape,” and “kinda new.”  The app also features 12 photo effects…

There is something so endearing about postcards. In the digital world we live in, they are a sweet throwback to an era gone bye.  Tangible, inexpensive, yet meaningful. If you feel the same way that I do about postcards, you’ll fall in love with Postagram. Postagram enables you to send your Instagram (and other) photos via snail mail in a thoroughly unique and memorable way. Note: You will need either an  iPhone or Droid as well as an Instagram account to utilize this tool. (A web app is also available for this tool.) So simple: Use the app or site to upload your…

You may not know this, but I am podcast junkie enthusiast. A multitasker by nature, I find podcasts a great way to learn, making even mundane tasks (like those piles and piles of laundry) an opportunity to further my knowledge or just have a laugh. Podcasts are PERFECT for working mothers.  How many times do you find yourself sitting at the orthodontist’s or doctor’s office just itching to stay productive in some way? Listen to a podcast.  Bored and listless while biding your time in the minivan for junior to finish soccer practice? Listen to a podcast. Washing dishes for…

Every week I do a column for Want2Dish.com. This week’s focus is about the new online photo editing tool PicMonkey… Not a professional photographer or graphic designer? Can’t justify spending upwards of $100 for computer software to make your photos look better? We’d like to introduce you to PicMonkey. PicMonkey is a fast, easy way for businesses and individuals to make their photos more attractive and functional. The web-based photo editor is fun and effective with a clean and simple interface that anyone can use. Users simply drag a photo on to the site and begin creating their masterpiece. PicMonkey editing options…

Forgive me but I am feeling a little irritated because I just discovering PinClout. Honestly, I debated writing a post that just said “Nooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!” and left it at that. Why couldn’t they just leave Pinterest alone? I have a love hate relationship with the original Klout model. Now that the world seems to have jumped on the Pinterest bandwagon, I suppose it was only a matter of time before someone created something like it. (By the way, even Klout hasn’t added Pinterest to the Klout score calculation yet.) I’ve researched into it a bit and although not much is really…

Fitness confession: I’ve been following the same fitness program for what seems like forever. Obviously anyone who has visited this blog knows that I am a runner at heart. It is what I love. That being said, I’m not in the best shape. I know that seems like a lie, but it is the truth. When it comes to muscle tone and flexibility I am pathetic. In an effort to change that, I’ve been exploring my options and reading up on fitness.  I have come across a couple of fundamental truths about the value of varying your exercise routines: (1)…

Mothers around the world rejoice!  Have I got a find for you… #mom (hashtagmom) is a service that automates calling or texting your mother when you arrive at a location using Foursquare and the #mom hashtag. That means anytime mom is worried whether or not you arrived safely, you can let her know immediately. I have to tell you, even my own mother loves this! (And she recently boycotted the Internet to the point of cancelling her email account.)  To sign up,  go here, enter your mother’s cel number, select your preference of  a text or call, and connect it to…

I got an interesting offer from a blogging colleague a week ago asking me if I would like to host a live Best Buy holiday event on the East Coast. Um, let me see….  HELL yeah? You see, we are Best Buy people. In fact, my husband may love Best Buy more than he loves me.  I’ve never really asked. I think it is because I don’t REALLY want to know the answer. Ahem. In any event, we were thrilled to be a part of the holiday social media extravaganza. Our event was one of two live parties being held that evening…
