File this under random musings about things that make my head explode… I read a news story today about how a Georgia school is hosting their first integrated prom this year. Let me repeat that… their FIRST INTEGRATED PROM. What the? Isn’t it 2013? Because last time I checked, I could have sworn my calendar was correct. Prior to this year, the school has held separate dances and according to reports, “if any race other than Caucasian tries to attend the white prom, that student would be escorted off the premises by police.” I’m completely flabbergasted. And my head is…

I love everything about the holidays. Love. Love. Love. LOVE! I love everything, that is, except for the whole Christmas card thing. I can never, ever, ever, ever, EVER get it together in time to send out Christmas cards. I AM AN UTTER FAILURE. It’s been, like, three years since our family has sent them out and even then it was on a small scale. (And now that I think of it… it might have been a New Year’s card. Gah!) Prior to that I believe we had an additional three or four year dry spell. Pathetic. There are a…

I’m reinstating a photo blog series that began January 1st of this year which I called “A Day In Pictures.”I stopped publishing it because life became a little too crazy and, quite frankly, I plain forgot. Bad blogger! I’m going to cover a three day period this time, as well. (Hey, it’s MY blog, you know.) I’m just breaking all the rules these days… Saturday, December 15th My family came over to visit and celebrate my birthday with coffee and cake and my sister in-law Anna surprised me with this gorgeous hand made creation. This picture does not do it…

I’m not flush with cash at this particular moment in my existence. I know, right? Shocking. It is a rather inconvenient time to be the mother of teen-ish boys. You know, the whole holidays thing. If you are unfamiliar, let me clue you in… teen-ish boys are only interested in technology gifts for Christmas. They don’t want anything that remotely resembles a plush toy or one that requires manual assemblage. They are past puzzles and lightsabers. And Legos just don’t hold their interest anymore. They want iPhones. And iPads. And iTouches. (Basically, anything that begins with a lowercase i.) They want gaming…

Allow me to gush? As I have mentioned previously, I am an Invisalign Teen Mom Advisory Board Member and I truly believe in the treatment. Speaking strictly as the mother of a child who has very specific sensitivities, my son’s treatment has been nothing but incredibly pleasant. How many people can say that about their orthodontia experience? No issues whatsoever. No pain. No complications. Very easy. It has been such a great experience that I’m hoping to one day get treatment myself. My teeth have been an issue for me almost my entire life. Of course, kid number two will take precedent in the invisible braces department but I…

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Like many, I find tremendous comfort in the the Jeremiah 29:11 scripture. Over the past couple of months, I’ve  experienced  a tremendous life shift. As part of that process, I’ve held fast to this scripture, developing a stronger relationship with God and rekindling a faith I had inadvertently pushed aside. As a result, I’ve found an inner peace and joy I didn’t even know was possible. I feel like a completely different woman. We…

Halloween has come and gone leaving families across the nation with a giant candy hangover… Gotta love it! Although we are one family who truly enjoys our holiday merrymaking, I don’t relish the hordes of leftover candy. (For reasons related to my propensity to each large quantities of chocolate in a single sitting. But I digress…)  One thing that we happily haven’t had to deal with is the battle between Halloween candy and braces. THAT would be a true challenge, let me tell you. (I see what my nephew and other neighborhood children go through and it is the pits.) According…

One of the best things about living in the Baltimore / DC Metro region is the opportunity to attend events with other bloggers situated in my immediate area. So much fun! I recently was invited to attend a #GracoSafety Mom’s Night Out hosted by my pal Stephanie of A Belle Reve introducing us all to the Graco Snugride Click Connect 40, the newest car seat released by Graco. Now, it has been a few *ahem* years since I’ve needed a car seat for my children. 🙂 I can say in all honesty that when my boys were little, we chose Graco car seats to transport…
