Frederick Half Marathon 2017

It’s been quite some time since I’ve done a race report on the blog. And truthfully I wasn’t planning on recaping my experience because I wasn’t officially official, if you know what I mean. But the day was pretty spectacular so the thought of not documenting it seemed like a sin. A few months ago my sister asked me to run part of the Frederick Half Marathon relay as a companion to my niece. She didn’t love the idea of her 13 year old running 5 1/2 miles alone so I agreed to run “rogue” with her. (Basically run alongside her…

Let’s face it, 2014 was not a stellar year for me on the racingscene. Rather than don bibs, clock times and wax poetic about chia recipes, I spent myweekendsas arecreational runner. And by recreational runner I meanoccasional runner.Andwhile mentally it wasa relief to not have to be “on” and train all of the time, Ihave to admit that I missed it. Running is my therapy and without it…Igo a little crazy. Okay, I go a little crazy with it as well. WHAT’S YOUR POINT, INTERNET?! Anyway, this year will be different. I’ve not settled on a full marathon to conquer as…

Flaxie Packs Square

For years I’ve beaten my body up while training. Running has taken a toll on my body (no question) and my forties are continuously throwing me for a loop. (I don’t want to talk about it. Harumph.)  I was introduced to the concept of Flaxie Packs by my friend Joanne McCoy who, it turns out, is co-owner of the company. She thought that my running partner and I would benefit from using them so I agreed to give them a shot. After all, between my nagging IT band injury and all my other bumps and bruises while while weight-training, I certainly could use…

Savory Cottage Cheese Salad

Well, week two has passed and we are still seeing some good results with the program! I actually only lost one pound this week but I feel tremendous. My clothes are fitting much better this week and I’m really encouraged. I’ve lost a good three to four  inches off of my waist already. I’m getting used to portioning and packing my own food and have a much easier time at resisting the every day temptations of life. I personally like to keep my meal plans simple and rotate them every two days. One thing that has remained constant is my…

21-Day-Fix.jpg

Ever discover something so wonderful you just want to share it with the world? Thanks to my dear pal Lori, I found the 21 Day Fix and it is quickly transforming the way I live out my life. I’ve spoken before about my need to take back my health. This plan has resonated with me like no other has. And after one week, I’ve lost seven (yes, OMG!) pounds, feel incredible and I am still totally committed. THE DEETS: 21 Day Fix focuses on workouts AND portion control. Portion control is my biggest area of weakness. Even when I eat well,…

tired woman

This year I’m not running a marathon. You heard me. I’M NOT RUNNING A MARATHON. It will be my first time skipping in six years. (Technically, I did not run the year of Hurricane Sandy. That was the year I was scheduled to run my second New York Marathon but it was cancelled and I trained up through 20 miles so I TOTALLY COUNT IT.) I don’t really know why I am not tackling a marathon this year. It wasn’t a big decision or anything. I think Katie and I just needed a mental break from training and simply couldn’t bring…

I need a challenge and I need it now. My health is suffering and I’m not motivated in the least to do anything about it. (Except sleep.) I’m not ready to do anything ridiculous at this point, but I am looking to embark on some sort of program to kick start myself. So, after analyzing my work and family commitments I’ve come up with a pretty solid (and definitely easy) plan. I’m calling it my ’30 for 30.’ There are no major rules. No insurmountable obstacles. Basically, all I have to do is get up off my ass and do…

Three-Shakeology-Flavors

In a previous post I shared with you some of my goals for 2014. My friend Lori and I have pledged to challenge each other through the year to keep each other accountable and also, admittedly, in the spirit of competition. For my birthday Lori gifted me with Shakeology 3 Day Cleanse. I’ve seen her do this before with much success so I really wanted to give it a go. Frankly, I wasn’t sure this experiment would work. I’d never done a fast/cleanse before and it was pretty intimidating. Plus I would have to give up coffee and that in…

Obstacle course runs have always intimidated me. Despite the cajoling from past participants that “it’s a piece of cake” and “so much fun!” I never really imagined that I would take part in one. I think of the participants in these things as the CrossFit elite and the P90X folks. (Definitely not ME.) For the record, I have absolutely no upper body or core strength. Therefore, I never believed I could complete an obstacle course race without getting stuck or having to bypass the challenges. So I safely managed to avoid them when they came to town. Of course that…

The Steamtown Marathon is tomorrow. We leave this morning at 11am. I’m suddenly not feeling ready. I’ve been so busy with work and kids, that I’ve not done a thing. Had a work function until late in the evening on Thursday. Spend an inordinate amount of time this week packing the kiddos for a soccer tournament that was (of course) cancelled at the last minute. Had a rare girls night out last night. Ate way too much and ended up crashing immediately after my return. It is 6:00am and the whole house is still asleep. It occurs to me that I’ve FORGOTTEN…
