The Morning Routine: 4:30 a.m.

Today marked the first day of our NEW routine. Ahem.

I fully expect to be a raging wench for the next two weeks. Hey, transitions are HARD okay? Pray for my children, folks. Mommy is beginning her three month makeover.

Today my husband and I arose at 4:30am to begin our Body for Life program. We’ve done this before and I know from experience that the first couple of weeks will suck. (I’m not gonna lie. Who WOULDN’T rather sleep in and eat what they want if they could be thin?)

The deadly combination of lack of sleep, aching muscles and new nutrition plan will rock my world for a bit. Which basically means, the sooner I see results the safer my family is. I’m thinking that if I hit the first two weeks hard, I can get the kick and by kick I mean a smaller waistline I need to adjust my attitude to this new and healthier lifestyle.

Mornings from here on out will consist of heavy weight training, running or P90X and getting my husband up and out the door before 6:15am. After that I get 40-45 minutes to prep the kids lunches, put on makeup or get sucked into Facebook or the blog. The oldest gets dropped off at school around 7:55 a.m. and the youngest hops on the bus at 8:30 a.m. I immediately turn around and head to the office to begin my “work” day.

Yeah. Mornings are pretty busy around here. So you see why the addition of Body for Life will make the next two weeks a little trying.

Oye. I’ll let  you know how it is going. As long as I still have my coffee, I think I can make it through. It is the little things, right?

Getting Your “Mojo” Back. What Exactly Are You Waiting For?

Mojo baby, yeah!

Not to go all Austin Powers on you but, I’ve lost my MOJO, baby.  And I think you might have too.

Not judging. Just sayin’…

If you look it up in the Urban Dictionary you will find the following definitions: That quality, often elusive, that sets a person apart from everyone else. OR Self-confidence, self-assuredness. As in the basis for belief in one’s self in a situation. OR Your cool/style essence.

MOJO Baby, Yeah!

Most people that I talk with around my age  having spent the last precious years of their life with children sucking the life out of them feel exactly the same way -  uninspired and a little well, lost.

We are not exactly living that exciting life of purpose and passion are we?  (I mean, WE are, of course… but those OTHER people reading my blog definitely need some help!) And not to go all “YMCA” on you (however I did work at a Y for a trillion years) but getting your mojo back is a spirit, mind and body sort of thing.  Don’t you agree?

Yes, we should focus on our physical well-being. Yes, we should focus on our mental ability and attitudes. Yes, we should focus on our spirituality.  It is all-encompassing.

So, since I have been dubbed (by my mother and mother knows everything, doesn’t she?) the QUEEN of self-help, I will be focusing some of my bloggety-blog efforts into helping myself and others get their game back.  Let’s set some goals together!  Let’s become better friends, parents and citizens.  Let’s transition from our sleepy state of acceptance to one with purpose, passion and intention!

Some fun resources to get you inspired:

  • Launch Your Personal Comeback – Good ole’ Oprah.  Even though I think she is a bit of a wack-a-doodle at times, Oprah is still dead-on with some of her advice.
  • Body For Life - This challenge can change your life. Literally.  BFL is one of my favorite lifestyle changing tools.  What better than a fitness competition to inspire you to get off your you-know-what?
  • Mamavation – Help Maria, the Mamavation Mom, change her life.  In turn, it is bound to motivate you to change yours!
  • Improve Your Vocabulary – Take a gander at this article with some interesting suggestions on how you can improve your vocabulary and broaden your horizons.

Well don’t just sit there… get on with it!  Your mojo isn’t going to knock on your front door.  What EXACTLY are you waiting for?

Fitness Fridays… Week Three Update

This is the second post in a series to focus on

Fitness Fridays! (More here…)

I’m shocked.  I’ve lost three pounds.  It is a miracle.

I’ve been working on adjusting my lifestyle.  The biggest things I have been focusing on lately are water consumption and weight training.  As far as cardio goes, I’ve logged only 6 miles so far this week but, really, I’m still taking it easy after the marathon.  We plan to do a 10 miler on Sunday.

My husband and I are once again embarking on the Body for Life Program. Heard of it?  We did it last year and had AMAZING SUCCESS.  Let’s put it this way, I wore a bikini last year.  And I’m not young.

So, because I laid off the weight training (fool!) I gained back much of the weight I lost.  Not all, but close.  So now we are focusing back on our diet and strength training in an effort to get back into shape.

If I get there – I promise you now… I’ll post a picture.  Maybe even a bikini.  Who knows?

My goal is 12-15 pounds or a size 5-6.  Okay, now that I have put it out there…people, please keep me accountable!
