For years I’ve beaten my body up while training. Running has taken a toll on my body (no question) and my forties are continuously throwing me for a loop. (I don’t want to talk about it. Harumph.)  I was introduced to the concept of Flaxie Packs by my friend Joanne McCoy who, it turns out, is co-owner of the company. She thought that my running partner and I would benefit from using them so I agreed to give them a shot. After all, between my nagging IT band injury and all my other bumps and bruises while while weight-training, I certainly could use…

Ever discover something so wonderful you just want to share it with the world? Thanks to my dear pal Lori, I found the 21 Day Fix and it is quickly transforming the way I live out my life. I’ve spoken before about my need to take back my health. This plan has resonated with me like no other has. And after one week, I’ve lost seven (yes, OMG!) pounds, feel incredible and I am still totally committed. THE DEETS: 21 Day Fix focuses on workouts AND portion control. Portion control is my biggest area of weakness. Even when I eat well,…

In a previous post I shared with you some of my goals for 2014. My friend Lori and I have pledged to challenge each other through the year to keep each other accountable and also, admittedly, in the spirit of competition. For my birthday Lori gifted me with Shakeology 3 Day Cleanse. I’ve seen her do this before with much success so I really wanted to give it a go. Frankly, I wasn’t sure this experiment would work. I’d never done a fast/cleanse before and it was pretty intimidating. Plus I would have to give up coffee and that in…

One of my biggest fitness frustrations has always been the elusive protein bar. I just have never been able to find one that fit all of my criteria. Either they were too high in calories, contained too much sugar or were too low in the good stuff. Most tasted like cardboard, truth be told. (I assume that one must actually be able to consume a protein bard to reap the benefits. Or so I am told…)  I always dreaded trying a new brand because it was usually money wasted. Remarkably, I had given up on protein bars when one spectacular…

Post 2 in the Resolution Report series This weekly report is my accountability to the world as well as a way to help others stay motivated on their own journey to fitness or ahem, a bikini body. I’ll share what I am learning along the way in the tips, techniques, resources & trends section of the posts. Before I give you some actionable ideas, let me just report that I have lost four pounds in three weeks. YAY! Now, the critic in me thinks I should have lost at least six but hey, I’ll take it!  I’m trying train my…

This is the fourth post in a series to focus on Fitness Fridays! (More here…) I’ve found some new fitness inspiration this week. I’m giving myself permission to take BABY STEPS. You see, I can’t run right now. I have some sort of injury which has caused me to lay off the running for awhile. Instead I am focusing on three things: relaxation water consumption high concentration of vegetables & fruits I’m shooting for 9 glasses of water per day, 60% of my diet from veggies & fruits and heavy doses of sleeping in and walking/meditating. I’m even taking an…

This is the second post in a series to focus on Fitness Fridays! (More here…) I’m shocked.  I’ve lost three pounds.  It is a miracle. I’ve been working on adjusting my lifestyle.  The biggest things I have been focusing on lately are water consumption and weight training.  As far as cardio goes, I’ve logged only 6 miles so far this week but, really, I’m still taking it easy after the marathon.  We plan to do a 10 miler on Sunday. My husband and I are once again embarking on the Body for Life Program. Heard of it?  We did it…

This is the first post in a series to focus on Fitness Fridays! (More here…) I have three days until I run the 2009 Frederick Marathon.  Three days. WOW. Everyone keeps asking me if I am ready.  Um, honestly, I don’t know.  How do you ever really know? I can give you one promise, though- I will do my best.  I will enjoy the experience.  And most importantly… I will wear hot pink and try not to throw up on the side of the road. 🙂 One of the most amazing opportunities that has come out of training for this…
