Discovered Again – The Circus!

I haven’t been to the circus since I was a kid.  I remember it like it was yesterday, it was in New York City, under a big top and there were these amazing clowns on a tightrope….

Ah, memories!
My kids recently got the opportunity to see the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® circus’ presentation of ZING ZANG ZOOM® when it came to Washington D.C.
I can’t even describe to you how perfect it was for them.  They were mesmerized the entire time.  Not a peep out of them except for them reminding me to video tape the performances so they could watch them again.  (If my kids were mesmerized, that is saying something!) And when they shot those ladies out of a cannon, well, my boys were enthralled!

The “plot” of Zing Zang Zoom is this:  Magical Zingmaster Alex and his assistant Levitytia lead the audience through a world of fantasy that celebrates the  spirit of the circus and also wards off the cynical Mr. Gravity and his team of Heavies, who try to bring everyone down.

D.C. Metro Area “Cupcake Run” To Benefit Foster Care Youth

If you know me in real life you know three things about me – I adore sweets, I love running AND I am a sucker for a good cause.  And HOLY HANNA PEOPLE someone has combined these three things together to create… THE CUPCAKE RUN.

Oh. My. Gosh.

Cakes for Cause will be holding its first ever 5K, dubbed “The Cupcake Run” to benefit youth who  have aged out of the foster care system.  The run/walk (Because they expect walkers and kids too!) will take place on Sunday, April 11th at 8:30am in Frederick, MD.

The Cupcake Run course will begin in the back lot of the YMCA and will travel through the north end of downtown Frederick.  (Flat course!) Of course there will be awards, t-shirts and all that good stuff but the real fun is the fact that all participants will given a cupcake for their efforts!  Hello?  Sign me up!

Registration  is $15.00 prior to March 31st and $20 after.  You can register here on Active.com. I really, really want to  to come out and support this race.  Don’t make me beg folks.

And let me fill you in on Cakes for Cause: Elin Ross runs it. She is a fabulous woman, a social visionary and a friend. Cakes for Cause operates the social enterprise, Moxie Bakery & Cafe in downtown Frederick.  Moxie serves as a teaching classroom for youth who have aged out of the foster care system,  are living in public housing, or who are involved with juvenile services.  Open to the public, the Cakes for Cause program serves as an important link for youth as they enter adulthood by enabling them to develop real skills and support within the community.

DON’T FORGET: I’m hosting a Blogher2010 cash sponsorship giveaway from SEED!  Find out more here!

If This Snow Doesn’t Stop I Might Not Make It Out Alive

I would like to introduce to you my husband’s new mistress. Because of this woman I have been left alone to fend for myself in a house filled with mischievous boys for a week.

She is very beautiful.  Oh yes.  Of course. Or at least everyone ELSE seems to think she is.  I, however, am not amused.  I find her abrasive and unyielding.  Basically, she is a wench.

Her name? SNOW.  And she is the mistress of all evil.

This is as much as I have seen of my husband for days. *Waving* "Hi honey!"

Now, most men can resist her siren song.  They patiently wait it out and pace themselves with regards to the amount of shoveling they are called to do.

NOT. MY. MAN.

He is out there constantly.  I understand his reasoning but my point of view is, “Dude! It just keeps coming down. You can’t win! Give it up and come inside.”

But what do I know?

It was the last thing he did before he went to bed late last night. It was the first thing he did when he got up this morning… and he is still doing it. He hasn’t even had his coffee yet. That, to me, is insanity.

Coffee before all things… especially the snow mistress.

And speaking of insanity – Have you ever seen “The Shining?”  I’m worried that I am on the road to that right now.  Cause seriously, how much more of this snow can we possibly take?  We are currently in the middle of our second BLIZZARD in four days.  If my power or Internet goes out I might be re-enacting this scene with the Comcast/Allegheny people.  Just a warning, yo.

My friend Amanda has a funny post up today … sort of an ode to the snow: “Bloody snow, bloody snow, bloody snow!”

Snowappocalypsearmageddon2 … In Progress

SNOWAPPOCALYPSEARMAGEDDON2So this is what my front yard looks like right now. (8:30am)  And it is still snowing and snowing and snowing.  I’ll do the follow up Vlog to this tomorrow as promised.

So we are literally STUCK HERE. Nowhere to go. Luckily, we still have power at this point.  I have heard some of my Twitter pals up the road are dealing with outages already.

That would be awful.  (And what if the Internet connection went out?  GAH! THE HORROR!)

So I am going to use this opportunity to tackle two projects – my blog redesign (yippie!) and to write the copy for my new businesses website.  (Which I fully plan to share with you once it is up!)

And can I just say that I have the coolest neighbors in the world?  We are hoping to have a snow party later on today.  We’re hoping to build ourselves an ice bar in the cul-de-sac.  How awesome is that?
